ActiveXperts is NMEA 0183 compliant. NMEA 0183 is technical communication protocol used with marine electronics such as echosounders, sonar and GPS receivers.

NMEA means the National Marine Electronics Association. It was founded in 1957. It created the standard interface for digital data exchange between different marine electronic products. The was defined back in the early eighties.
